How to Apply to Academia as an International Student?

Have You Completed or Are You Completing High School Abroad?

If you have obtained your high school education outside Slovenia and are considering continuing your studies at Academia, a higher vocational college in Maribor, we have great news for you! Academia welcomes international students, and this article will guide you through the process of having your foreign education recognized, ensuring your path to studying is as smooth as possible.

Recognition of Foreign Education for Further Studies at Academia

To enroll at Academia, candidates with foreign educational diplomas must undergo an education recognition process. This process formally assesses your education obtained abroad and determines its equivalence in accordance with Slovenian legislation, enabling you to continue your education in your chosen program.

The recognition process follows the Act on the Evaluation and Recognition of Education (ZVPI) and ensures that candidates meet the requirements for application, enrollment, and participation in educational programs in Slovenia.

When to Submit the Recognition Application?

You can submit your recognition application:

  • Together with your electronic application for enrollment in eVŠ (the unified higher education application and information system), or
  • Separately, before starting the enrollment process.

The electronic application form in eVŠ usually serves as the recognition application for foreign education.

Required Documents for Recognition

To successfully submit your recognition application, you will need the following:

  1. Completed N-Form – available here: N_Form_with_Instructions_in_English
  2. Original certificate or diploma proving completed education abroad (optional but recommended).
  3. Certified copy of the certificate or diploma with an Apostille seal. Apostille is not required for Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, North Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia.
  4. Certified translation of the certificate or diploma into Slovenian. Translation is not required for documents in English, Serbian (Latin script), or Croatian.
  5. Evidence of the content and duration of your education, such as:
    • Supplement to the certificate
    • Annual school reports or transcripts for the last two years of high school
    • Other similar documentation
  6. Chronological description of your entire education (CV), which you prepare and sign. Include details about schools attended, periods of attendance, any school transfers, grade repetitions, and so on.
