The thesis deals with the execution of construction and craft works during the renovation of the Tscheligi Tower in Maribor. In the first part of the thesis, we briefly present the history and significance of the tower, then go into more detail about its technical characteristics and describe the current state of the building, which was part of the former city walls and is listed as a cultural heritage site in the register of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia.

In light of this, we examine the cultural and conservation conditions during the renovation, the conservation interventions on the building, the PZI documentation and the contract for the execution of the works.
From the description of the current situation and the above-mentioned documentation alone, we can recognize the limitations of the planned renovation and the potential challenges associated with it.

Therefore, in the central part of the thesis, we focus on the restoration of the construction and craftsmanship of the historic tower and describe in detail the process of the overall restoration (from preliminary works, demolition, earthworks, masonry, carpentry and locksmith works), including practical challenges in individual works or interventions.

The diploma thesis also shows the condition before the renovation with images and includes renovation proposals.

After a detailed description of the execution of the structural and craft work, a chapter follows that analyzes the renovation of the building itself on the basis of the work carried out and at the same time examines the cost-effectiveness of the renovation of the building in view of the different methods used to carry out the renovation work.

In this way, we test the hypothesis that reinforcing the stone wall by installing so-called IBO anchors would be a quarter cheaper than the steel beams on the top beams. We also test the hypothesis that the implementation of mezzanine structures with HEA steel beams instead of the wooden beams used would make the work about 20 percent more expensive, and that the renovation by injection of lime-cement injections, instead of the injection of lime-containing masses without cement content, would be about one-fifth cheaper.

This chapter also addresses the thesis that the use of artificial intelligence in the refurbishment of such historic buildings would improve the accuracy of the assessment of the building’s condition and the efficiency of the refurbishment.

The combination of BIM with artificial intelligence enables the analysis of large amounts of data and thus the automation and optimization of construction processes.
