Art has always been a way of human expression, it allows us to translate emotions into stories and images. Traditional methods of art are closely linked to human history and heritage. However, the arrival of technology ushered in a whole new era of artistic creation.

A well-designed illustrated children’s book is not just a collection of images and text, it is a work of art. Illustrations, however, are not just images that are added to the book, but are important elements of decoration that add a new note of understanding the story.

Thus, the illustrator is an important part of any illustrated book, whether it is a traditional book or a digital one.

In illustration, traditional methods and media have been the main foundation for many years. These techniques, which range from pencil sketches to watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, embody the essence of illustration in its most classic form. Just like traditional art, digital requires its own range of abilities and artistic vison.

There is a shortage of digital illustrated books in Slovenia. I wanted to make interactive digital illustrations that would make the digital book and reading even more interesting. Since we already live in a completely digital world, I think it’s time for books to be included in this as well.

This also makes them more easily accessible to a larger audience. By borrowing or buying books digitally, it makes it easier to access them, and it also saves the Earth.

Personally, however, I wanted the storytelling to become interesting and moving, with added audio that convinces the reader and further draws interest in the story.

The diploma thesis is divided into two parts: the theoretical and the research-applied part. In first part, I explored everything from classic illustration to digital interactive books, programs for creating them and the implementation of interactivity.

Then I did an analysis of the illustrators and the target audience, and started creating the product. It started with a story that slowly spilled over into illustrations, which turned into a book and the necessary interactivity. After completing the focus group, I added the necessary things that my young participants suggested to me.
