The thesis addresses the topic of container construction, with its primary aim being to showcase the potential of such construction methods and promote their broader application. The goal of the thesis was the actual conversion of a shipping container into a vacation unit.

The theoretical part of the thesis consists of a review of container construction, from shipping containers to reference examples both globally and locally, as well as an overview of opportunities, challenges, and the legislation governing the legal placement of container structures in space.

This analysis demonstrated that obtaining building permits can be challenging due to various regulations and standards that are not always tailored to container construction, or they can be expedited for the same reasons.

Nonetheless, the legislation is gradually evolving and adapting to account for the innovations and specific characteristics of container construction, allowing for greater flexibility in its implementation and wider acceptance in the construction industry.

In the following sections, we described our conceptual design and the actual process of converting a shipping container into a vacation unit, supported by original photographic material. We focused on cost analysis and timelines, comparing the economic efficiency and scheduling with traditional wooden construction.

We demonstrated that container construction is faster, more adaptable, and economically more favorable. These are also the reasons why it is becoming increasingly popular for various types of construction, from temporary accommodations to permanent residential buildings.

It offers a construction practice that can significantly address modern urban and housing challenges.

The overarching theme of the current academic year, “The Need for Energy-Efficient Building Solutions,” aligned perfectly with the topic of this thesis. It motivated us to analyze energy efficiency solutions in container construction.

Through this, we proved that energy efficiency can only be achieved if the process is approached thoughtfully and comprehensively.
