Lecturer in Economics at the Erasmus+ Professional Training Course at Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, Morocco

Dr. Dušan Mežnar, a lecturer at VSŠ Academia Maribor who teaches Sales, Procurement and International Business as part of the modules of the Economist study programme, took part in a professional training course at the Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, the capital of Morocco, from 15 to 23 September as part of the Erasmus+ programme.

Cadi Ayyad University, also known as UCA, is one of the most important academic and research centres in Morocco. With its rich history, a wide range of study programmes and a strong focus on research, the university has established itself as a prestigious educational institution attracting students from all corners of the country and abroad. It is located in the vibrant and historically rich city of Marrakech, giving the university a unique cultural and geographical context.

Cadi Ayyad University is renowned for its diverse programmes, which include everything from basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, and biology, to advanced engineering programmes, information technologies and medical sciences. With more than 140,000 students and an extensive network of campuses throughout the Marrakech-Safi region, the university produces generations of graduates every year who contribute to the development of Moroccan society and economy.

During the visit, Dr Mežnar met with representatives of the International Office, Mr Elafigh Brahim, Director of International Projects, and Mr Hicham Hakim, Director of the International Cooperation Office, and presented the Academia, its educational programmes, its potential and the possibilities for cooperation. During his visit, Dr. Meznar also had the opportunity to meet with law and economics students and to present the Academia, its study programmes and the way of studying.

One of the key pillars of UCA’s success is its focus on research. The University hosts several scientific institutes and research centres active in areas such as biotechnology, energy, ecosystems and sustainable development. Many UCA researchers are involved in international projects, which enhances the University’s global visibility and reputation.

Over the last decades, UCA has consolidated numerous partnerships with universities and research institutes around the world. These collaborations give students and researchers access to international opportunities for study, research and knowledge exchange. The University regularly participates in programmes such as Erasmus+, which allows students to spend part of their education abroad and return with new experiences and knowledge.

UCA has several campuses, the main one in Marrakech, where the most important faculties and research centres are located. The campuses are modern and offer a range of support services for students, such as libraries, research laboratories, student hostels and recreational facilities. As a city, Marrakech offers a rich cultural life, from historic monuments to lively markets, to numerous cultural events that allow students to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Despite its great growth and success, Cadi Ayyad University is facing challenges such as increasing student numbers, the need for more funding for research and improving infrastructure. However, it remains focused on its vision – to become an even stronger regional and global player in higher education and research.
