Environmentally friendly posters as a means of communicating with society about environmental changes

The diploma thesis, entitled Environmentally friendly posters as a means of communicating with society about environmental changes, arose from the desire to research environmentally friendly ways of designing and advertising posters that raise awareness of environmental changes in society. The purpose of the thesis is to confirm or reject the set hypotheses, which I will present in the following chapters.

The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In my theoretical work, I will explore the history and development of posters over the centuries, current trends in poster design, I will present examples of good and bad practices, and I will explore sustainability in art and design. The purpose of this is to gain a broader and deeper view of poster design and production techniques, as I think that with the help of the acquired knowledge, I will create visually attractive and successful posters. I will also research different advertising techniques and the most environmentally friendly approaches.

In the practical part of the thesis, I will create a series of three posters that raise awareness of environmental changes and describe the design process, from idea, graphic design and visual communications to advertising. The posters will be digitally created, with the help of Adobe Photoshop program, using the “photo manipulation” technique by combining multiple photos into a common whole.

A poster is a means of communication that combines images, texts and other graphic elements such as pictograms, location maps, barcodes, etc… It can appeal to us, warn us, shock us and make us think. It has been one of the most important visual media for many years. We can see them everywhere – roadside, street, pillars, buildings, billboards, online, etc. Consciously or subconsciously, they remain in our memory and influence our decisions.

I chose this topic because I believe that designers can express their attitude towards the environment and society through their works. With my knowledge and skills, I want to positively influence people’s lives and make society aware of the climate crisis and lasting consequences we face. I believe that with my work I can contribute to a more beautiful and greener future.
