Mechanical Engineering students on a professional excursion at Mariborska livarna Maribor

On Monday, 29 May 2023, students of the study program Mechanical Engineering visited the Mariborska livarna Maribor (MLM) as part of the course Manufacture and Maintenance of Tools. The excursion was led by Mag. Andrej Mikložič, introduced the students to the various departments and stressed the importance of linking the theoretical background with practical work.

The first department the students visited was the tool room department. Here, students learned about the creation and use of tools, from construction to maintenance. They were interested to see how tools are made and how they are used in the production process. The next visit was to the die-casting department, where the students saw the equipment and learned about the implementation and use of tools in the casting process. They observed how the tooling is used to create complex shapes from the cast material. This section also included a demonstration of the processes and machinery involved in die casting. The last department visited was the mechanical processing department. The students learned about the machining of molded products and the specific features of machining with different machine tools. Here they learned about the different techniques and processes used to machine materials and how tools allow the creation of precise and high-quality products.
