Construction students in Dornava visit the construction site of the bridge over the river Pesnica

Students of the Civil Engineering study programme took part in a professional tour of the construction site of the bridge over the river Pesnica in Dornava with the lecturer Dr. Mojca Jarc Simonič as part of the course Calculations and Business.

Built in 1965, the bridge was already visibly deteriorated in 2022, when the reconstruction started. When the National Infrastructure Directorate inspected the condition of the structure before the renovation started, it assessed that the bridge’s equipment, such as the railing, the edge wreaths, the carriageway, and the expansion joints, were in a state of disrepair, and that damage was also visible on the abutments. The decision was therefore taken not to rebuild the old bridge, but to build a new bridge and at the same time to improve the pedestrian and cycling areas.

The construction of the bridge started in May 2022 and the construction work is being carried out by the construction company GIC from Rogaška Slatina, at a cost of EUR 1.5 million. During the site visit, the students paid particular attention to measuring and calculating the quantities of the construction works and the construction phases.
