The thesis analyses and compares the rehabilitation of an asphalt pavement with the performance of routine maintenance works compared to the reconstruction of an asphalt pavement when it is already damaged, and the reasons for the damage to the asphalt pavement when routine maintenance works are not performed at all or not performed properly.

The comparison is made for the local road LC 109011 Šalovci-Adrijanci.

In the first part of the work, the condition of the existing local road is described and the relevant data is collected. The data was supplemented by additional research, as the municipality of Šalovci does not have any data on the history and the measures carried out for local road construction.

Therefore, additional research was required in the form of an exploratory excavation to determine the dimensions of the carriageway structure and laboratory tests on the materials used.

On the basis of the data obtained, an overview of the electronically available laws and regulations in the field of asphalt road construction and asphalt road maintenance, the necessary rehabilitation measures for the rehabilitation of asphalt roads were determined and calculated for the case of rehabilitation from routine maintenance by renewing the existing asphalt and for the case of a worn asphalt surface.

In the theoretical part, I described how important and necessary it is to carry out routine maintenance work on roads that have already been built in order to extend the service life of asphalt pavements and ensure road safety. It is also important to take timely action, whether it is routine maintenance or waiting for resurfacing when it is worn out.

The second, overarching part of the thesis is therefore concerned with identifying the necessary and timely actions that should be taken during the expected life of the asphalt pavement, analysing the cost from a financial perspective of maintaining the local road compared to rehabilitating the road if the rehabilitation is not carried out during its life, and the environmental impact of taking timely and correct action.
