Graphic Design
Metka Volmajer, a student of the Media Production – Graphic Design module, went on a practical training in the Vision Factory company in Barcelona, Spain, as part of the Erasmus+ programme. She was in charge of marketing or promotion of the company.
At the beginning of October, Metka arrived in Barcelona, a few days before the start of her internship at Vision Factory. On 14 October, the first day of her internship, ZOOM had a call with the director, who is also her mentor. During the call, she was given her first assignment and presented with her expected work rhythm and goals.
The next day she worked in the office for the first time. She had used public transport several times before, so she was familiar with the system, but she still decided to leave home half an hour early to get to the office on time. Because of her nervousness, she waited outside the building for half an hour, as the other trainees had only started arriving 15 minutes before the start time.
“The first tasks were related to content creation, mainly writing articles with SEO and keyword elements, which had to be submitted twice a week. Later on, the tasks were upgraded to graphic design and promotions.“
Most of the trainees in the office are from Greece or Cyprus, so they have often heard Greek. She met two new trainees who were also on the ZOOM call, and a trainee from Slovakia who had finished his internship that day. They met again at his farewell party, where she made more genuine contacts with other colleagues. It was observed that most of the trainees stay for 2-3 months, but many of them have already graduated and are doing their internship for their Master’s degree.
“I am looking forward to new tasks and opportunities as I think the internship at Vision Factory is a great step for my career. I am impressed by the open and friendly team where I am doing my practical training.”
Barcelona, although huge and sometimes difficult to manage, offers unique experiences. She was initially worried about the floods that hit parts of Spain, but was lucky not to have chosen Valencia, Marbella or Malaga, where the consequences would have been worse. Despite the initial challenges, she is optimistic about continuing her internship and completing it successfully.
