As part of the Graphic Design Project Work course, we hosted Mr Matej Grušovnik, Head of User Interface Design at POVIO, a San Francisco-based design and development company that creates digital products. With more than 1000 successfully completed projects and more than 200 skilled professionals, they have worked with multinationals such as Volkswagen, Flexport, and high-profile personalities such as Serena Williams.
In the introductory part of the guest lecture, Mr Grušovnik presented Povio Labs, a company that develops digital solutions, especially in the field of UX/UI design. The company specialises in creating user experiences that are simple, functional, and visually appealing. Mr Grušovnik introduced the students to the basic principles used by the company in designing user interfaces and applications, and how these principles help to improve the user experience. He stressed the importance of researching users and their needs, as this is the only way to create products that solve specific user problems.
The students also had the opportunity to learn about the whole work process, which includes phases such as research, conceptual design, prototype testing, and feedback-based optimisation. Mr Grušovnik described each step of the process in detail, stressing the importance of collaboration between designers, developers, and users to achieve the best results.
At the same time, it highlighted how the company approaches design for different platforms, be it websites or mobile apps, and how design approaches adapt to different devices and user needs. Mr Grušovnik also shared his experience of working on various projects and how important it is to have flexibility in the design process, as requirements and technologies change rapidly.
Special emphasis was also placed on Povio Academy, the company’s educational programme that enables students and young professionals to gain practical experience in digital design. The programme offers educational content, workshops, and mentoring, allowing students to develop their design skills and prepare for entry into the job market.
